My name is Ayuna and I am organizer of the Volunteer School in Buryatia, as well as the girl in the yellow t-shirt in the photo.
The building you see on the back is the Moscow State Lomonosov university which is considered to be the main and the best university of Russia. I made it to become its student without bribes and ‘vitamin B’ as they say in German (knowing someone important). I passed my entry exams and studied and have travelled all over Europe thanks to education opportunities. This is where my story begins and this is my message to kids in the villages where I grew up and where my parents are from.
Most of the kids in the villages in Buryatia (and I guess in every small place in the world) do not have proper access to education. Furthermore, like me, due to high level of corruption on all levels, they wouldn’t believe it IS possible to get into university or college just working and studying hard and doing your best.
The Volunteer School in Buryatia project aims to promote education and its opportunities and values to the kids in the villages, to break stereotypes, to broaden minds both of volunteers and local people. To break the borders in their young minds, encourage them to study and show by your own example that learning languages and discovering the world is real even if you live in a small place. May be, not easy but Real.
BuryatiaSummerSchool.org project takes place in villages of Buryatia republic of Russia. Volunteers are welcome to visit Buryatia and teach in one of the schools. The decision on volunteers’ placement will be taken by schools itself depending on their availability and schedule.
